02 / KNOW WHO YOU TRAIN WITH
Training starts with understanding. Confidence comes from practice.
I’m David Harrison, the instructor behind KPH Training & Consulting. I teach firearm safety and lifesaving skills in the Darlington, Maryland area, helping people take the next step toward being prepared.
Whether you’re working toward your HQL, renewing your Wear & Carry permit, or learning how to respond in an emergency, our focus is clear: responsible decisions, practical skills, and safety.
The HQL relates to purchasing, renting, or receiving a handgun in Maryland, subject to exemptions. A Wear & Carry permit relates to carrying a handgun. They serve different purposes. Contact David to discuss which training you need and review the Maryland State Police HQL guidance.
After the initial permit period, Maryland Wear & Carry permits are renewed for three-year terms. The initial permit expires at the end of your birth month two years after issuance. Check the expiration date on your permit and plan ahead. Renewal training generally requires at least eight hours; an expired permit requires a new application and initial training. Check current Maryland renewal guidance.
BLS focuses on CPR, AED use, and relief of choking for healthcare professionals and others who need these skills. First aid is a separate course offering. Tell David what your employer or organization requires so you can choose the right class. Read AHA course FAQs.
KPH Training teaches in the Darlington, Maryland area. Email David@kphtraining.com or call 443-406-5003 with the course you’re interested in. David will confirm upcoming dates, pricing, the class location, and what to bring.
No. Completing the required training is one part of the application process. Maryland State Police determines eligibility and issues licenses and permits. Application requirements, fees, and exemptions are separate from your training.
